Brakes
Stopping power that survives repeat use, specified for how the car is driven.
Most street cars stop well once. Slowing a car that trips the lights at 150 mph, or one that gets leaned on hard on the road, is a different question.
Fade is a system problem
Pad compound, fluid boiling point, rotor mass and cooling all contribute. Upgrading one of them and leaving the rest alone moves the problem rather than solving it.
Bigger is not automatically better
A larger kit adds unsprung and rotating mass and needs the wheel clearance to match. On plenty of cars the right answer is a proper pad, fluid and line package rather than a bigger caliper.
What this covers
- Pad and rotor packages
- Stainless lines and high-temperature fluid
- Big brake kit installation
- Cooling and ducting considerations
